Back 2 Back! Brooks Koepka Wins Another US Open

Zach Johnson plays a shot from a bunker on the 18th hole during the second round of the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club

Koepka made only two birdies in his hard-earned round of 72, leaving him poised to become the first player since Curtis Strange in 1989 to win back-to-back in the U.S. Open.

"Yeah, but I wanted a 62, " said Fleetwood, who finished one shot back and had to settle for the silver medal. We go through all the key moments of Sunday's final round.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. - The U.S. Open returned to one of its historic venues, and Shinnecock Hills did not disappoint.

The 2016 champion three-putted three times on the back nine at Shinnecock Hills, shooting an even-par 70 on Sunday to finish third, two strokes back, as workout buddy and final-round partner Brooks Koepka claimed his second U.S. Open title in a row.

With Fleetwood on the driving range, Koepka parred Shinnecock's 17th hole, and he teed off on 18 with a two-stroke lead.

Finau made a late double-bogey to drop from a tie for third with Johnson into solo fifth, a difference of over $200,000, but he played well, and he should win something for having the most dedicated team of friends and family.

Strange, in fact, said he has no reason to believe Koepka can not win a third in a row - which only Scotland's Willie Anderson has ever done (from 1903-05) and something he tried so badly to do but failed in 1990. So as much as that kind of comes into your head, it's not bothering me this time.

Mohamed Salah's fitness not exclusively at fault for Egypt's woes - Hector Cuper
The win gives Russian Federation two wins from two in Group A, after their opening game 5-0 demolition of Saudi Arabia last week. Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah played his first game since his shoulder injury during the UEFA Champions League final.

After it was over, unusual was emotional - not because he was upset that he no longer was the "last man" to do it, but because he knows how hard it is to do, and he was happy for Koepka. "Obviously with your boy Brooks, now we all know who he is dating, especially me", Buck said.

After Koepka hugged his caddie, father, stepmother and his girlfriend, odd was right there on the 18th fairway to congratulate him. "It was pretty neat". Calling the shots, I obviously can't hear what he's saying. It was cool to have him in the group. "It's truly special and I'm so honored".

"Man, it feels good to hold this thing again, " Koepka said with the silver trophy in his arms. No playoff, but there was still a plane that would take off without them. So what am I, part of seven? "It's a good group". Mickelson disrespected a game that holds honor in greater esteem than nearly any other, in which players call penalties on themselves when no one else can see the infraction. He doesn't think it will be another three decades before someone repeats, he said, "but I didn't think it would be 30 years after me". That was three years ago at the Phoenix Open.

"You were seeing shots that were well played and not rewarded", said Mike Davis, the chief executive of the USGA. "I just love getting up for it and playing the best and playing really, really hard golf courses".

Norman gets beat up for the number of majors he could have won, including at Shinnecock Hills in 1986, the year he had the 54-hole lead at all four majors. Masters champion Patrick Reed birdied his first three holes and five of the first seven to shoot 31 on the front. He entered the final day in a four-way tie at 3 over and was still only one stroke behind Koepka when they made the turn.

The pressure the third time is even more extreme, said the only person alive who would know.

"Oh yeah, absolutely, " odd said. When you look back at history, it's incredible. I look like I'm wound a little differently.
