Tourists taking selfie fall to their deaths in Portugal, officials say

A beach cleaner found their bodies on Tuesday morning at Pescadores beach in Ericeira 30km from Lisbon

The couple left Australia in January on holiday and had gone to a friend's wedding in Portugal recently, the website reported.

Their bodies were found by a beach cleaner on Tuesday morning and a cell phone was found at the top of the wall.

The couple who died in a cliff fall in Portugal have been identified as Michael Kearns and Louise Benson.

Corfina Media reported police will speak to witnesses who said they saw the pair sitting on the wall with their legs facing the beach.

According to the Portuguese newspaper, Correio da Manhã, the pair died on the Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach) near popular resort Ericeira.

Local media report the authorities say they may have fallen while trying to recover a phone or to take photographs. "RIP Louise Benson yet again another great soul took away from us far too early".
