New York's attorney general is suing Donald Trump, his children and the Trump Foundation, alleging what she called "extensive and persistent violations of state and federal law".
Prosecutors charge Trump with repeatedly misusing the nonprofit to pay off his businesses' creditors, to decorate one of his golf clubs and to stage a multimillion dollar giveaway at his 2016 campaign events. "I won't settle this case!".
The complaint alleges that the charity provided illegal support to Trump's 2016 presidential bid by using public funding to promote his campaign, and that the foundation raised more than $2.8 million to support Trump's campaign.
NY is also seeking $2.8 million of restitution plus penalties, a 10-year ban on Trump serving as a director of a NY nonprofit, and one-year bans for his children Donald Jr, Eric and Ivanka.
The lawsuit seeks to ban the president from serving as the director of any NY non-profit for 10 years, and seeks similar one year bans for each of his children, who serve on the foundation's board.
Prosecutors also want to bar Trump's three eldest children from the boards of nonprofits based in NY or that operate in NY for one year.
