United States jogger throws away homeless man's possessions

Officers from Oregon's Portland Police Department corner and shoot carjacking suspect inside local homeless shelter

So writes JJ Harris alongside a two-minute video posted to Twitter that shows a shirtless jogger on Friday steamrolling through a homeless man's belongings in Oakland, Calif., throwing some items out and allegedly hurling others into Lake Merritt. The video shows a man wearing a black, backward baseball cap and basketball shorts rummaging around the homeless man's clothes, kicking and throwing the items. During the incident, the homeless man does not appear in the video. He's asked if he had been the one to throw them in but denies it.

Bystanders can be heard pleading for the jogger to stop, but he insists that he's picking up trash. "He can pick it up. I'm cleaning up the trash".

In the video, a woman claims that the jogger threw some of the clothing into Lake Merritt.

"His stuff is in the corner, not blocking the walkway", Harris said, adding that he had made a decision to start filming when he realized the jogger was trashing someone's belongings.

A video that captured a jogger in California throwing a homeless man's belongings into a lake and into the garbage last week has caused outrage in the community.

Writing on the GoFundMe crowd-funding website, he said the homeless man was called Drew. "Only possibility is he "may" get a fine for littering", Harris wrote on Facebook.

Harris, who lives near the lake and frequently hangs out in this section of the park, said he had often seen the homeless man there and that he kept his possessions in order.

'Wake up Punchy!': Trump jabs back at De Niro
President Donald Trump is punching back against actor Robert De Niro , calling him a "low IQ individual". Earlier this year, the "Godfather Part II" star called Trump a "jerkoff in chief" and "a f-king idiot".

"I was just completely taken aback", Harris told the Guardian on Monday. We can use our phones for good. "It's one of our most powerful tools for social justice".

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff told KPIX that the jogger's actions were inappropriate.

"I feel the frustration of both sides, now I will say clearly that was not appropriate", she said. "It's not appropriate to take someone's belongings, it's not appropriate to trash our lovely Lake Merritt".

"This guy's been living here for years", one bystander says, in reference to the homeless person, who has been identified only as Drew.

Freinkel said there are organizations such as Eden I&R that a person can call at 211 to get a homeless person help. "This whole incident is a pretty succinct manifestation of so many of Oakland's current issues - racism, gentrification, white privilege, male privilege, hatred towards poor and homeless people, lack of resources due to funds not being allocated properly, lack of consequences for unjustifiably bullying homeless people and sheer apathy towards their predicaments", she added.

"We're disgusted that someone thought it was OK to treat Drew this way and want to show him through our care that what happened to him is unacceptable".

The community reportedly has rallied behind Drew and donated clothes, food and other items to help get him back on his feet following the destruction of his encampment.
