Uber Patents Tech that Would Identify Drunk Passengers When Ordering Ride

Uber patents a system that tells if the rider is drunk

The application filed by Uber with the United States Patent and Trademark Office describes a system that would measure what it calls the "state" of customers using the app.

The proposed tool relies on algorithms to gather potential data that Uber could use to determine whether the user is inebriated.

The proposed software will track user behaviour such as typos, how long it takes to request a ride, how accurately the user clicks buttons and even their walking speed. The system will also give drivers more information and warning about the passenger's state and make them get prepared for the adventure ahead. Uber is working on a plan to detect a user's drunken behavior before they get into the back seat.

Uber wants to know when you've had a few too many drinks, and it's turning to artificial intelligence for answers.

Ariana Grande Just Got Engaged - and Celebrated by Riding Space Mountain
It's way too soon to know if they'll have a storybook ending, but singer Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson are engaged. And the happy couple splashed more cash as they took to the Space Mountain rollercoaster after news of the proposal broke.

"It could lead to the possibility of some drivers avoiding drunk passengers and in the worst cases 'drunk hunting".

Uber is all set to introduce the new app that will alert passengers whether the driver is drunk or not. A photographer (R) takes pictures of the logo for ride-hailing service Uber during a press conference in Taipei on April 13, 2017.

The concern is that people deemed excessively drunk might be refused service from Uber, which could lead to them trying to drive home themselves or getting into other risky situations.

According to Uber, knowing whether a rider is drunk or exhausted could help prevent issues with a trip. And riders in an especially unusual state may only be matched with drivers with relevant experience or training, the patent application says.
