TSA Searching Elderly Woman in Wheelchair Sparks Anger

‘What the h*ll do you think she’s going to do?’: Family furious after TSA patted down 96-year-old grandmother for 6 minutes

She does not want to fly again ever.

In the caption, Clarkson wrote that they were both in wheelchairs, but her mother was the only one who was subjected to such a long search. She was scared. She was just following directions. "She said she didn't know what to do", she says.

Clarkson says she, her fiancé and Evelyn LaBrier were traveling back home to Anderson, Indiana after visiting her son in Maryland.

The woman's daughter complained that the 6-minute search was quote "prolonged and repetitive".

The video went viral instantly and caused a furor online.

'The 3 of us were all in wheelchairs.

According to Newsweek, Jeanne Clarkson was traveling back home to IN from Washington with her fiance and 96-year-old mother, Evelyn LaBrier, when her wheelchair-bound mother was the subject of a lengthy pat down by the TSA. "Set off a shoe bomb?" she asks in the clip. The officer then began the pat-down process and searched the woman extensively.

Clarkson can be heard protesting in the almost six-minute video, which was posted in mid-May, sarcastically asking if agents expected her elderly mother would try to set off a shoe bomb.

Another said: 'That lady looked like she was going to cry!

The family's bad luck continued after the pat-down.

Others, however, say TSA was simply doing their job.

'I was just shocked. "I've been in a wheelchair myself unable to walk through the machines and I've never had that kind of a pat-down ever", Clarkson said in an interview with CBS News". "It was just shock, and frustration because they would not talk to me".

The video has since generated 30,000 comments, 140,000 shares and 8.9 million views. Clarkson, who is in a wheelchair herself, can be heard asking the TSA officers why the search was taking so much time.

The TSA told CBS: "TSA is committed to ensuring the security of travelers, while treating all passengers with dignity and respect". The TSA is defending the pat down.

"The passenger was very cooperative and gave no indication that she was agitated or in discomfort. She received a pat-down and was cleared for her flight", read the statement.

Clarkson says TSA did not explain what they were looking for, which has left her mother shocked and traumatized from the ordeal. "No, this lady doesn't look unsafe at all but who's to say someone hasn't put something on her to get it on the plane, against her will", a commenter wrote in defense of the TSA. "She said she didn't know what to do", she said.

'Security screening at our checkpoints is directed and conducted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
