SpaceX seeks to expand at Kennedy Space Center

SpaceX Falcon Heavy

According to the document, SpaceX is seeking permission to build on a 67-acre patch of land about one mile north of KSC's visitor center complex. Florida Today also noted that there was no specific timeline or budget given for the completion of what SpaceX is calling its "Operations Area".

While clearly serving SpaceX's manufacturing needs, it's hard to ignore just how flashy these plans are.

Over the course of 2018, the company has planned 30 launches, which in itself is a record for any single country, let alone a single company.

The report states that SpaceX has plans for conducting at least 64 launches per year using the next generation Falcon 9 rockets, which Musk believes, as per an IBT report, can be launched up to a 100 times before being decommissioned.

The environmental review document says the objective of the expansion is to help support SpaceX's mission in developing a "local, efficient, and reusable launch vehicle program" with Falcon Heavy, right now the world's most powerful rocket.

Six BFRs will begin to build a city on MarsSpaceX

"The increasing frequency of launches, SpaceX and the number of upcoming missions from Florida we are looking to expand their opportunities and step up operations at launch, landing and re-shipment to the flight of the Falcon family of rockets", - quotes the channel of official company representative James Gleason. The expanded facility will allow SpaceX to build, repair, and launch even more rockets than before.

"The objective of this action is to develop a site that supports ..." Saying so, SpaceX is on the verge of getting started. The tower may stretch 300 feet high, according to the plans. The parts would be reused for future launches, saving many millions of dollars per launch.

Within this campus, there will also be what the company calls a "Rocket Garden" where display pieces of what SpaceX considers historic will be on display. Notably, SpaceX has been quite regularly partnering up with NASA for missions to the International Space Station. The California facility will build Big Falcon Rockets, which are created to be completely reusable and send 100 people and 150 tons of cargo to Mars.

The draft environmental report - which is open to public comment for the next month - stated that there were no negative impacts listed.
