Reuters/Ipsos poll: Half of Americans approve of Trump's handling of North Korea

Kim-Trump summit: Where does it leave the main players?

Well, for starters, the twosides would need toestablish what denuclearisation means. That was the personal assessment made by Trump, after the summit. Below is an abridged transcript.

While Trump said he did talk about human rights with Kim, the advocacy group Human Rights Watch criticized the president for leaving it out of the final declaration, and said that the North Korean people were the big losers from the Singapore Summit.

"I have no idea" whether Trump secured anything of substance, Senator Corker, the retiring chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said.

Trump's Tuesday pledge appeared to reverse that position.

People look at the display of local newspaper reporting the meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, at a subway station in Pyongyang, North Korea Wednesday, June 13, 2018. -South Korea military exercises could be put back on if talks with Pyongyang do not progress.

"We save a fortune by not doing war games", Trump tweeted Wednesday, "as long as we are negotiating in good faith - which both sides are!"

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Mr Trump's cost reasoning for halting the exercises was "ridiculous". He also predicted that the Kim Jong and he "will solve a big problem, a big dilemma".

"At this juncture, I don't think we know enough to challenge or celebrate". I really believe that.

Beyond the tub-thumping soundbites of the Singapore summit, the unprecedented get-together left many questions unanswered and some U.S. allies in the region facing an uncertain future.

He said many in the media were hoping that the talks would "blow up" and that Kim Jong would "humiliate and embarrass Trump".

The Kremlin welcomed the summit as the start of direct dialogue and said such meetings "help reduce tensions on the peninsula".

In August 2017, Pyongyang threatened missile strikes on Guam, the only United States territory easily in reach of North Korean missiles.

In a 2014 report, United Nations investigators said that 80,000 to 120,000 people were thought to be held in prison labour camps in North Korea. Kim and Trump, obviously.

Is this summit a game-changer for Asia and the rest of the world? Having open channels of communication can only minimize the risk of miscalculation. In 2012, North Korea agreed to suspend nuclear tests in exchange for food aid, then reversed course two weeks later.

Moon says Trump deserves a Peace Prize.

And now here we are, talking seriously about not-nuking each other. It also hasn't changed North Korea's behavior.

Kim visited China's Xi Jinping twice before meeting Trump - once in March and another time in May. But we'll be saving a tremendous amount of money.

Before the unexpected thaw between Pyongyang and the US, North Korea had repeatedly threatened to target US troops in the region. Now that Kim has a hydrogen bomb and missiles that can deliver it to the USA, he says he doesn't need to test them anymore and can dedicate more of his resources toward the economy.

Also, this has been a long time coming.
