Langworthys homer in 11th sends Florida to CWS

Florida baserunner brilliantly distracted pitcher as teammate stole home

A blunder by Auburn's right fielder helped send Florida back to the College World Series on a walk-off home run. Williams had a bead on it, but it bounced off his glove and over the fence.

Cody Greenhill (6-3) took the loss retiring the final batter in the 10th before giving up the solo home run in the 11th.

Williams misplayed the ball and it ricocheted off his glove and into the netting that sits behind right field.

"I think in this game everything comes back to you". "That's how this game works".

Credit to Florida and the Gators' Austin Langworthy, who hit the screaming line-drive of a homer. Teammates made their way into right field to console him as the Gators celebrated.

"The moment on the road, loud, there was definitely a delay", Thompson said.

The Gators (47-19) advance to play Texas Tech in Omaha, Nebraska later this week. The Gators won it all a year ago.

Auburn (43-23) was trying to get to the CWS for the first time since 1997. In the biggest game of his career, the sophomore was at his best holding Florida to just one hit in 5.1 innings out of the bullpen with six strikeouts and four walks. Byrne pitched in all three games, part of a staff that allowed just seven runs in the series. "He's a starter that's in the back end of the bullpen".

With runners on first and third with two outs in the fourth, Auburn pitcher Andrew Mitchell was focused on Nick Horvath at first base as the lead runner Blake Reese got a huge jump to steal home. During Sunday's win against the Gators, he made a running play to track down a ball hit by Deacon Liput to the gap in right-center field to deprive him of extra bases. India became the fifth player in program history with at least 20 dingers in a season.

Auburn tied the game 2-2 on a sacrifice fly by Josh Anthony to score Jarvis from third base. Florida went back ahead with a little trickery. Auburn answered in the third as Will Holland reached on an infield single, stole second base and scored on a two-strike, two-out single by Williams. You have to have good players, you have to stay healthy, there's a sense of luck involved.

The confusion then gave Reese enough time to easily beat the ensuing throw home and give the Gators a 2-1 lead.

"I appreciate it more because I know how hard it is to get there", O'Sullivan said.

The Tigers don't look like a one-year wonder. The All-American closer preserved the 2-2 tie for four innings.

It was a gesture that Thompson found befitting of his team, a close-knit group that was projected to finish sixth in the SEC West this season but outperformed expectations, sweeping its way through a regional and coming within a run of unseating the defending champs - a team that spent the entire season ranked first or second in the country. Dalton had a chance to erase his previous mistakes, and almost did. Auburn center fielder Jay Estes dove out and caught the ball inches before it hit the grass. The throw by right fielder Will Dalton beat Jarvis home but the senior managed to get his outstretched hand across the plate before the tag. The Gators were the eighth of eight teams to win their Super Regional.
