Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who dropped gun while dancing charged with assault

Chase Bishop

An off-duty Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who accidentally fired a weapon that fell while he was dancing at a Denver club, wounding another patron in the leg, has surrendered to police.

The FBI agent whose gun accidentally went off at a Colorado nightclub earlier this month is facing criminal charges.

Chase Bishop, 29, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning and has been booked into the Downtown Denver Detention Center, per the jail records. The video shows Bishop's handgun falling to the floor mid-flip, then discharging into the surrounding crowd with a loud pop when he reaches to recover it. Bishop then put the gun back in his trousers and walked away with his hands up.

The district attorney's office will make a formal charging decision. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Bishop was partying at Mile High Spirits, a distillery and dance club in the Ballpark neighborhood, while off duty.

Authorities have not said what kind of gun the agent was carrying, or why it accidentally fired.
