Fernando Alonso says that'predictable F1'will never change

Indycar is another option for Alonso, with McLaren's Zak Brown confirming that the British team is looking at entering a team.

"I'm one of the best to have raced in F1", he told BBC.

Alonso passes the 300 grand prix mark in Canada this weekend, but next weekend he will tackle Le Mans and he is linked with a full-time Indycar seat for 2019.

F1 has taken a back seat for the Spaniard, but despite three years of turmoil at McLaren, Alonso remained for another campaign in the hope that their divorce from Honda and switch to Renault would fire Britain's most successful team back to the front.

That proved to be an ill-starred season for Alonso who departed after just one year of acrimony and returned to Renault, then went to Ferrari, again with bad timing, before returning to McLaren again where he has experienced the most miserable period of his career since 2015.

Alonso continues to be a prodigal piece of the puzzle as he's recently shown his discontent with Formula 1 action.

Real Madrid Name Spain Coach Lopetegui As Zidane Successor
He previously had a spell as manager of Porto , as well as with the Spanish national youth team set-up and at Real's B team. Real finished third in La Liga last season, 17 points behind champions Barcelona.

"Now it's the [football] World Cup, there are a couple of favourites, but no one can guarantee that Germany, Brazil, Spain will win the cup".

"But in F1, everyone can guarantee that Mercedes or Ferrari will win the race and that's very sad for the sport". But Alonso believes not even the proposed changes for 2021 will be able to shake up the order. "Probably it will never change".

And Buemi, Alonso's teammate at Toyota, said: "He seems to be quite interested (in Formula E)".

Alonso's growing pessimism around his profesional situation and that of F1 in general has not completely soured his outlook on the future.

Regardless of what series Fernando chooses to race in, Brown and the rest of McLaren want to make sure that he does it behind the wheel of one of their cars.

Fernando Alonso has the look and speaks the talk of a driver set to leave Formula 1 in the not-too- distant future. It's been known that McLaren executives have made the pilgrimage to several IndyCar events in the past month; in addition to that, Brown has revealed that the Woking-based outfit is "seriously considering" the leap into America's premier open-wheel series as early as 2019.

The 36-year-old's two world titles do not reflect how close Alonso has come to a number of other championships, nor his status within F1, where he is regarded as still, at the age of 36, a gold standard. He comes to RacingNation.com with multiple professional awards from the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AWWRBA). His major interest outside of competition is automotive technology and its application to the cars we drive every day on the public highways.
