Girl Wouldn’t Stop Playing ‘Fortnite’ To Use Bathroom, Sent To Rehab

UK kid put in rehab for breaking Fortnite addiction

A young girl in the United Kingdom has been sent to rehab after her parents claim she became so addicted to a video game she refused to stop playing, even to use the bathroom.

The report says that the girl's parents bought her an Xbox One in January and she downloaded Fortnite right away.

She complained she was too exhausted to go to gym or ballet class, and Carol began noticing there were regular payments to Microsoft on their credit card, of about £50 a month. After a series of $67 charges were placed on the family's credit card by the girl for premium in-game items, her father went to confiscate the Xbox and was struck in the face by the out-of-control kid.

Since Fortnite was released last July, more than 40 million people have downloaded it. "She was so hooked on the game she wouldn't even go to the toilet", said Carol.

Shocked, they asked the little girl to talk to them about what had been happening, when she revealed she had been playing for up to ten hours a day, sometimes until 5am. These in-game purchases help boost performance. "She had fallen asleep twice in lessons and her grades were slipping", said mother Carol.

But after her father discovered her sitting on a urine-soaked cushion, the child came clean about her addiction.

The game has been endorsed by a large number of celebs who regularly upload videos of them playing the game.

The youngster is now working to get her life back on track.

Child psychologists believe kids could develop mental health problems if they become too exposed to the game.

Fortnite's most popular format is the Battle Royale, in which 100 players fight each other until one is left standing.

And professional gamers are making up to £500,000 (NZ$953,000) a month from live-streaming their matches for addicted children to watch.
