Mike Pompeo: US to hit Iran with 'strongest sanctions in history'

Pompeo vows 'strongest sanctions in history' on Iran

The worldwide community, including top U.S. officials, have said Tehran had been in compliance.

"No action taken by the regime has been more risky than its pursuit of nuclear weapons and the means of delivering them", the President said when he announced the USA withdrawal from the deal.

Three EU sources have told the global media that the upcoming meeting in Vienna will not offer additional financial incentives to Tehran, but will focus on how to further strengthen the existing deal. "It's on the table, we're not going to rule out anything necessary in order to address Iran", Pentagon spokesman Rob Manning said.

He said Iran must allow nuclear inspectors “unqualified access to all sites throughout the country, ” Pompeo said, alluding to military sites that were off-limits under the 2015 deal except under specific circumstances.

Iran has promised to ramp up its nuclear program if the deal collapses, though many feel as though the deal has done little to diminish Iran's nuclear efforts anyway.

Pompeo said that if Iran decides to restart its nuclear program that was halted by the JCPOA, "it will have problems like it never experienced before".

Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made a tight diplomatic trip for negotiations on how to save the JCPOA in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal from the multilateral nuclear deal.

Verheugen told RT's Sophie Shevardnadze on the SophieCo show that European companies are essentially backed into a corner when they consider the economic benefits they receive by doing business with the United States, versus Iran.

Mr Johnson said the United Kingdom was taking measures to attempt to protect British companies with business interests in Iran from being caught by any new USA sanctions. They're also engaging with the agreement's remaining participants - Russia, China, Iran and the European Union - to salvage the deal without the U.S.

Megan changed into another white gown, designed by Stella McCartney, and Harry exchanged his military uniform for a classic tux. In a striking image, the outspoken biracial American divorcée walked unescorted, followed by her 10 bridesmaids and page boys.

"From my conversation with European friends, I know that they broadly share these same views, of what the Iranian regime must do to gain acceptance in the worldwide community", Pompeo said about the demands.

Pompeo said the USA would respond If Iran restarts nuclear activities, but added, "I'm not prepared to share with you what that response will be". "The sting of sanctions will be painful", Pompeo said before a packed house at the conservative Heritage Foundation, a top American think-tank. "It will not be able to do both", Pompeo said. Pompeo is threatening to place "the strongest sanctions in history" on Iran if its government doesn't change course.

Mr Pompeo said Iran must also "release all U.S. citizens", end support for Houthi rebels in Yemen, "withdraw all forces" from Syria and stop threatening Israel.

Iran must also "release all United States citizens" missing in Iran or being held on "spurious charges", he said.

"There is only one way to read it and that is that Trump administration has wedded itself to a regime-change strategy to Iran, one that is likely to alienate our allies".

Pompeo said he understood that Trump's decision "will pose financial and economic difficulties for a number of our friends".

In a briefing for reporters last week, State Department officials said Pompeo would be "presenting a diplomatic roadmap to achieve a new security architecture and a better security framework, a better deal, following the President's decision to end America's participation" in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The USA has set in motion a series of sanctions that will give Iran 2 choices, surrender or fight. "Our message is very clear: This is a nuclear agreement that works".
