UFC announces debut event in Moscow

UFC to debut in Russia this September

After rumors swirling for most of 2018, UFC has officially announced their first event to ever take place in Russian Federation. "Moscow" will take place September 15 at Olimpiyskiy Arena.

On Wednesday the UFC announced that it will hold a Fight Night card at the Olimpiyskiy Arena in Moscow on Saturday, September 15.

"Russia is a key part of UFC's global expansion strategy", said senior UFC official David Shaw.

Based in Moscow, Gromkovski will be tasked with "leading the regional strategic plan for UFC Russia", according to the announcement.

Jose Mourinho hails "unbelievable" Michael Carrick
Between heart problems and declining mobility, he was a bit-part player for the last couple of years at United. It's the same with Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric - they keep things ticking over, as does Carrick.

Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is not expected to appear on the card, however, with the show taking place as a UFC Fight Night event rather than a pay-per-view.

The UFC also announced the promotion of Andre Gromkovski as Vice President for UFC Russia. Gromkovski brings with him expertise across the media sales, digital, marketing and content distribution landscapes, working with companies such as Universal Studios, FOX, Viacom and Paramount Pictures.

While Khabib would be the ultimate draw for the event and would increase home interest exponentially, it is probably more likely that if he does fight again in 2018, he will be saved for a bigger occasion in NY or Las Vegas. While no fights have been announced for the card as of yet, it's the culmination of years of work by the promotion to break into the Russian market, dating back to the Zuffa era. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of Campus Sports.
