David Warner to play club cricket in Australia

An emotional David Warner speaks to the media in March after returning home from the ball tampering scandal in South Africa

Banned Australia batsman David Warner will attempt to get his career back on track by playing the start of the Sydney grade cricket season with Randwick Petersham.

Mike Whitney, the former Aussie pacer and president of Randwick Petersham Cricket club, confirmed the news of Warner's availability.

Warner and his co-conspirator Steve Smith, was banned from playing cricket for Australia and state-level teams for one year, while bowler Cameron Bancroft was given nine months, after they were caught tampering with the ball during the Third Test in South Africa in March.

But the opener is free to play for his club - Randwick Petersham - and has indicated to them that he will do so this autumn.

The Vice President assured the IDPs that government would not renege on its responsibility of providing security to them. Osinbajo, who arrived in Benue on Tuesday afternoon, visited the IDP camps and met with various groups in the state.

Smith and Warner were stripped of their respective captaincy and vice-captaincy roles. Cricket Australia (CA) had suspended the captain and vice-captain for a period of 1 year and Bancroft was banned for 9 months. But the trio was later cleared to play the grade cricket after which the club seems to have contacted the disgraced Australian batsman. Why it is only three or four rounds at this stage, I don't know. "He will be great in the changing rooms with younger players", the Club President excitedly said.

Warner has been on the books at Randwick Petersham since 2013-14, but has rarely played due to state, global and Indian Premier League commitments.

Whitney, a former test player for Australia, was also well-known as a TV presenter for his work on the show Who Dares Wins.
