Hillary Clinton: Large Portion of US 'Uneasy,' 'Angry' About Women Seeking Power

"I believe our world is at a crossroads and what we do next week not only as governments but as business leaders, media, influencers and ordinary citizens matters enormously", Mrs Clinton said on Friday.

Speaking at an event in Melbourne, the former USA secretary of state stressed that expansionist China's ongoing effort to gain power and manipulate policy poses a clear and present danger.

Australia has been closely monitoring China and its efforts to sway policy and expand its military presence in the Pacific region.

"What we're seeing now is a desire by China to extend its influence and project its power".

In the case of China, Clinton said: "This is an urgent problem and one we must confront immediately and together".

Hillary Clinton has fears over China's growing persuasion in the Asia-Pacific, and on Thursday night issued a warning to Australia to be vigilant to outside influence and to 'protect Australia's interests'.

An Australian senator quit in December following questions over his relationship with a donor to the Chinese Communist Party. Turnbull also stated that foreign actors had made "unprecedented and increasingly sophisticated attempts to influence the political process".
