Trump tweets on 2026 FIFA World Cup bid

Donald Trump tweets threat to opponents of US 2026 World Cup bid

President Donald Trump Thursday night literally threatened countries around the world voting over who will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer games.

The North American bid retains strong support from Fifa's president - BBC Sport reported earlier this week that Gianni Infantino is alleged to have asked a task force evaluating both bids to find damaging evidence that could block Morocco's candidacy.

President Donald Trump says it would be a shame if countries that the US always supports were to lobby against the US' FIFA World Cup bid.

Unlike past World Cup competitions, which have involved allegations of corruption, Fifa has said it will publish the vote of each member federation. "It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the USA bid".

Garoppolo helped the 49ers win their final five games during the 2017 season and post their best record since the 2014 season. The 49ers didn't have much contact with McGlinchey in the months leading up to the draft.

The North American bid boasts large stadiums and excellent infrastructure but is no certainty to win the June vote.

In a wildly surprising development, Trump, who previously has shown little appetite for soccer, appeared to throw his full backing behind the three-pronged bid that would see the U.S., Mexico and Canada potentially act as co-hosts of soccer's biggest tournament. This is due in part to the policies of Trump, including a travel ban against mostly Arab countries. They also may pick neither bid, which would lead to the host process being reopened.

The North American bid has secured an endorsement from CONMEBOL and its 10 countries, as well as the six Central American countries absent Guatemala, which is suspended.

A statement from a United Bid spokesperson read: "From the beginning, we have received strong support from the Canadian, Mexican and United States governments".
