Delta apologizes after woman says she was tied to wheelchair during flight

Delta apologizes for tying woman with MS to wheelchair

Maria Saliagas, 53, traveled from Atlanta, Georgia, to Greece with her husband earlier this month.

A Delta Airlines passenger with multiple sclerosis says airline employees tied her to her wheelchair with a "dirty blanket", leaving bruises on her arm, because they didn't have the correct equipment for the flight.

Delta said they "regret the perception" the incident has left with the Saliagas family however, the airline is disputing the details of how Maria Saliagas was handled by airline staff.

The family is demanding that Delta show an effort to change their policy and training when it comes to dealing with disabled passengers.

Delta reportedly offered the family 20,000 free sky miles over the incident but the offer was refused.

The airline says it has reached out to the family, "not only to resolve their concerns, but also ensure that their return flight exceeds expectations".

Ahead of summit, Pope Francis urges Koreas to have 'courage' for peace
On September 3 past year , the North's biggest ever nuclear test, a hydrogen bomb blast, caused a 6.3-magnitude quake . The high-level summit is meant to pave the way for a separate highly anticipated encounter between Kim and U.S.

Officials at Delta Air Lines, meanwhile, pushed back on Saliagas' claims, claiming an airport-contracted wheelchair vendor did meet her at the gate. "There was complete operations failure".

An aisle chair which is designed for in-flight use was used to help Saliagas off the plane.

Now her family is sharing a photograph that shows the woman tied to a chair with a blanket. Saliagas agreed and the blankets were then removed from their original packaging, according to the airline. "That's when that picture was taken", said her son.

In a Facebook post on April 24, Nathan Saliagas also alleged that his mother was subjected to "physically and emotionally abuse" by Delta workers. Nathan Saliagas tweeted April 2 that Delta's actions left his mother bruised and crying.

'This highly inhumane and disgusting treatment by Delta Airlines is unacceptable and a need for change, ' he fumed.
