Warriors' Stephen Curry to resume practicing Saturday

Steph Curry

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year hasn't backed up his 2017-18 defensive numbers to that degree, but his mettle has proved intact in these first three games against the San Antonio Spurs, erasing any thought of a decline in his abilities.

"According to multiple sources, Curry is still not close to playing", Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic reported. The Warriors cleared Curry on Friday to participate in "modified team practices" beginning on Saturday.

But they are not yet whole - they need Stephen Curry back.

Curry is expected to feature during the second round but Warriors officials are taking steps to ensure that he is closer to 100 percent before returning to action on the court. The Warriors plan to reevaluate Curry on April 27, making it possible he could return just in time for the Warriors' second-round playoff series. That might play a role in Golden State's decision to expedite Curry's rehab. Despite video of him doing work on the court, he isn't in the final stages of his rehabilitation.

Curry averaged 26.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game in an injury-filled season where the guard missed over 30 games.

Curry averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals a game for the Warriors this season, when they finished 58-24, second-best in the Western Conference to Houston and third-best overall in the National Basketball Association, also behind Eastern Conference pace-setter Toronto.

The target has always been a return somewhere during the second round, and that still seems to be on track.
