Facebook re-announces more privacy reminders to comply with EU's GDPR

Privacy Warning as MEPs Prepare to Debate Cambridge Analytica Scandal

Mr Kelly repeated the request by European Parliament President Antonio Tajani for Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, to meet MEPs at the Parliament to discuss such concerns: "I reminded the representatives that they have more users in Europe - over 364 million monthly active users here - than in the USA or Canada which account for a combined total of 239 million".

"As soon as GDPR was finalised, we realised it was an opportunity to invest even more heavily in privacy".

The blog post on Tuesday also said that Facebook was not asking to have new rights for collecting, using or sharing user data on its site, and continues to be committed to not selling data about the user to any advertisers or any other partners. We've also sought input from people outside Facebook with different perspectives on privacy, including people who use our services, regulators and government officials, privacy experts, and designers.

The new regulations will apply to any business processing personal data, including smaller businesses with less than 250 employees.

People's response to the sale and manipulation of their personal data illustrates they want and need better control over their personal information.

Recent high-profile fines by the Information Commissioner's Office include £400,000 to both Carphone Warehouse in January 2018 and TalkTalk in 2016, after customers' data was hacked. Facebook will also make it easier for people to delete their information if they choose to no longer share it.

In addition Facebook asked if users would allow facial recognition technology to be used.

-Giving people in the European Union and Canada the option to turn on facial recognition, which the post says "help [s] protect your privacy and improve your experiences", including tasks such as tagging people.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament renewed its call for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify about the data privacy scandal, after Zuckerberg offered to send a subordinate in his place. Among other data, a blockchain can house the information of those who have engaged in transactions along the life of the blockchain, whether it is their name or social security number or, more often, simply a code which could make an individual identifiable.

"This week's debate on data protection and the privacy of citizens comes before the May implementation deadline for the GDPR, which I led negotiations on for the EPP Group in the European Parliament". By doing so, and by reading the company's privacy policy and still applying, they will be consenting to the company's approach to what will happen to their data.

As part of the changes, Facebook users in Europe and Canada will for the first time be able to opt into the network's facial recognition technology, which has been available in most other parts of the world for the past six years, the company said.

There isn't really any new privacy agreement, but just Facebook reminding people that these options are already there. These tools will allow users to see their data, delete it and easily download and export it.

The GDPR mandates using privileged and identity access management (https://www.manageengine.com/products/ad-manager/gdpr-compliance-tool-for-active-directory.html) to give only a few professionals access to critical data in your organisation, thereby ensuring that data does not fall into the wrong hands.
