Trump Informs Congress of Reasons for Strike in Syria

Freeland made the comments on the sidelines of a major global summit in Lima, Peru, which U.S. President Donald Trump skipped last minute to deal with the recent chemical-weapons attack in Syria, which culminated in the launch of U.S., British and French strikes against Syrian targets on Friday night. There is little doubt Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, an Iranian ally, will survive this war.

"The coalition strike in Syria is a measured response to Assad's barbaric use of chemical weapons".

But they later began to believe it was something else.

The fact-finding team usually starts its investigation by meeting top officials, but any talks were held behind closed doors and both parties imposed a strict media blackout.

May was to tell parliament, "We have acted because it is in our national interest to do so".

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons would be instructed to report within 30 days whether President Bashar al Assad's government has fully disclosed its chemical weapons stockpile.

The inspectors will face a hard task, with all key players having pre-empted their findings, including Western powers, which justified the strikes by claiming they already had proof such weapons were used. A week later, the government regained full control of the town following a surrender deal with the rebels there, and on Sunday it deployed another 5,000 security forces in Douma.

"I can guarantee that Russian Federation has not tampered with the site", Mr Lavrov told the BBC in an interview.

The attack last week killed dozens of people including children.

Wresting back the opposition stronghold on the doorstep of Damascus had been a priority for the resurgent regime.

Although the recent Syrian airstrikes were double the size of last year's, President Trump reportedly selected one of the more restrained proposals designed by the Pentagon.

Mr Bush addressed sailors aboard a Navy ship in May 2003 alongside a "Mission Accomplished" banner, just weeks before it became apparent that Iraqis had organised an insurgency that would tie down United States forces for years.

The U.S. -led operation won broad Western support.

US officials said Saturday that they believed the strikes would prevent future chemical attacks by the Syrian regime, but warned that the USA was prepared to "sustain" its operation if Assad continues his aggressions.

And still, the course of Syrian's civil war will likely remain unchanged.

Assad also said he did not expect Western oil and gas companies to work in the country, according to Sablin, who quoted Assad as saying, "We are not waiting for Western companies here, especially in the oil and gas sphere".

The Kremlin had warned Washington that Russian Federation would fend off any strike that jeopardized its servicemen in Syria.

"Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that if such actions were committed in violation of the United Nations charter continue, then it will inevitably lead to chaos in worldwide relations", the statement said.

Iran also issued strong statements early Saturday condemning the strikes.

Western leaders have called for a fresh diplomatic push, aiming to end a conflict that has killed more than 350,000 people and displaced half of Syria's population. It has also been in the form of a voice on the U.N. Security Council.

The Pentagon repeated Saturday that the President has the authority under the Constitution to defend USA interests, but what happens next is up to the Assad regime and Russian Federation.
