Russian Federation 'will not delay' in response to USA sanctions: Deputy FM

Russia claims Syira chemical attack was staged by United Kingdom

The U.S.is expected to impose new sanctions on Russian Federation following the suspected chemical attack in Syria that left more than 40 people dead and hundreds injured. "I think it is wrong to rely on speculations about such issues", Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said when asked a relevant question.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Saturday said the military strikes on Syria were not about regime change, but about sending a clear message that the worldwide community will not stand by and tolerate the use of chemical weapons.

OPCW inspectors were visiting sites in Douma on Monday aiming to collect samples, interview witnesses and document evidence to determine whether banned toxic munitions were used. Footage of young victims foaming at the mouth and weeping in agony helped to thrust Syria's civil war - in which half a million people have been killed in the past seven years - to the forefront of world concern again. But the British delegation to the OPCW said Russian Federation and Syria had not yet allowed inspectors access to Douma.

Around 75 people, including children, were killed in the Douma assault, United Kingdom officials said, while 500 people were treated in the attack's aftermath with symptoms consistent with chemical weapons exposure, the World Health Organization reported. Britain's delegation to the OPCW accused Russian Federation and the Assad government of stopping inspectors from reaching Douma.

Ryabkov said that Russia's lower house of parliament is considering legislation that would give the Kremlin the power to restrict United States imports, RIA reported.

On Sunday, US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said new sanctions would be announced on Monday by Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

Speaking of Assad and his suspected role in last week's chemical weapons attack, Trump said, "These are not the actions of a man".

Mr Lavrov said that the "deconfliction channel" to prevent a clash between United States and Russian forces had done its job and a confrontation had not been close. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied that Moscow had interfered with any evidence. "And they will go directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use". "We have to be conscious of the fact that we can't allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons".

The Associated Press reported late Monday (Thailand time) that its journalists visited Douma on a government-approved media trip, and spoke to residents who described a terrifying gas attack on April 7.

He said: "I'm afraid the Syrian war will go on in its disgusting, miserable way".

Although U.S. President Donald Trump had declared: "Mission accomplished" after the strikes, U.S. Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie at the Pentagon acknowledged that elements of the program remained and he could not guarantee that Syria would be unable to conduct a chemical attack in the future.

The U.S. ambassador to the OPCW, Kenneth Ward, said there were suspicions that Russian Federation, a longtime ally of the Syrian government, may have tampered with the evidence.

The website noted that the top single web page being promoted was a link to a report on Russia's claim that the Skripals were poisoned with a different toxin to the one identified by the independent chemical weapons watchdog last week. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on Monday will respond to their criticism in a debate in parliament on Monday afternoon.
