National Weather Service confirms Rankin County tornado

Say it Ain't Snow

The National Weather Service has confirmed to the Summit County Emergency Management Agency that a tornado touched down in Coventry Township overnight. I spoke to them earlier today and they said due to the large scale of the damage and path of the storms it may take them until late in the day to have a full report.

The EF1 storm struck around 8:05 p.m.

One person died in Sunday's storm, and thousands were left without power because of fallen trees and downed power lines and utility poles. The tornado packed wind speeds of 95 miles-per-hour.

About 33,000 Consumers Energy customers and 125,000 DTE customers were without power by noon Sunday in MI due to damaged power lines.
