Togadia quits VHP, plans indefinite fast for Hindutva

Togadia legacy ends, VHP gets its new international president

Mr. Kokje defeated incumbent Raghava Reddy, known to be supportive of Mr. Togadia, getting 131 out of the 192 delegate votes in the elections held at Gurugram.

Then VHP International Working President Ashok Singhal- who had called Modi Ghazni for razing temples-had mended fences with Modi but Togadia continued his tirade. Togadia who has been criticized by the BJP faced a lot of opposition within the VHP in recent times.

Togadia, who has been with the VHP for over three decades and served as its global working president since December 2011, announced quitting the outfit in a press conference after his nominee to the post of worldwide president of the VHP was defeated in voting.

Kokje became the governor of Himachal Pradesh from 2003 to 2008 during the Vajpayee government.

Hardline Hindutva supporter Praveen Togadia has resigned from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and is reported to be planning the launch of his own organisation that supposedly will work for the welfare of the Hindus.

Mr. Togadia's exit was not unexpected, especially after events in Bhubaneswar, and given his long-standing and public differences with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Togadia has lately been at loggerheads with senior BJP leaders and had claimed that there was threat to his life.

Togadia had made a sensational statement last month, claiming that a Rajasthan police team had come here to abduct him and he feared he could be eliminated in a staged encounter.
