Could James Comey's book threaten credibility as chief prosecution witness?

Donald Trump

Twitter Ads info and privacyThat fury was clearly in response to Comey's widely-leaked but unreleased new book "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" in which the former law enforcement official describes the president's life as "a cocoon of alternative reality" and Trump himself as "untethered to truth".

In an interview on ABC Sunday night, Comey's unsparing indictment of the president's character stood out from his equivocations on other matters, such as whether Trump has obstructed justice.

Comey also said that when Trump said, "I hope you can let it go" during a subsequent meeting at which an investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump's first national security adviser, was raised, he took that as a "direction", which he said "certainly (is) some evidence of obstruction of justice".

However, during the Senate hearing in May, Grassley asked if Comey had ever been an anonymous source or authorized someone else to do the same, not if Comey knew anyone else who had been an anonymous source, as Trump argued.

Comey has a tell-all book, "A Higher Loyalty", due out on Tuesday.

In a subsequent CNN interview, she made clear she was paraphrasing Democrats who feel that Comey swung the election. "Because I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump".

"I think it's possible". "Comey comes along and says, 'This reminds me of prosecuting the mob and essentially a mob boss that I'm having to deal with'".

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, citing the FBI's behavior in investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton and its probe into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election. Lindsey Graham, R-SC said Comey drafted a statement exonerating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for running her government emails through a private email server before completing the investigation. "No golf and grandkids talk (give us all a break)!" tweeted Trump.

'I don't know. These are more words I never thought I'd utter about a president of the United States, but it's possible'. But Trump later said he was thinking about "this Russian Federation thing" around the time he chose to fire Comey.

The interview escalated the ongoing battle between Comey and the president, who just hours had tweeted that his former FBI director was "slimeball" and "the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!" "Just another of his many lies", Trump said on Twitter.

In a clip released Sunday, Comey details how he felt telling Congress the Federal Bureau of Investigation was reviewing additional Clinton emails just days before the election.

Trump's tweet came the morning after Comey gave his first televised interview since he was unceremoniously fired last May while overseeing the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the USA election. The media appearance is the first time Comey has sat for a televised interview since Trump fired him previous year.

According to the transcript and video of the interview posted online, Comey describes warning Trump about what may be the most infamous allegation in a dossier of claims involving Trump and Russian Federation, parts of which remain unverified.

She says she rose above politics throughout the email investigation, and never discussed it with anyone from the Clinton campaign or the Democratic National Committee.
