Armenians protest leader's plan to stay in power as prime minister

Since early morning of April 16, the Armenian Opposition started mass demonstrations of protest against the Armenian 3rd president Serzh Sargsyan, who will soon become the new Prime Minister of the country.

The 63-year-old ended his second and final presidential term last week and has been nominated by the ruling party for the post of prime minister.

Sarksyan's ally Armen Sarkissian, a former premier and ambassador to Britain, was sworn in as president last week after being elected by parliament in a vote that was meant to herald the start of a power shift to the premier and parliament.

The RPA will nominate Serzh Sargsyan as candidate for the next Prime Minister.

Timberwolves miss an opportunity in Game 1 loss to Houston
Houston average 122 points per game against the T-wolves, with an average margin of victory of 15 points. Eric Gordon is the third double-digit scorer and Clint Capela is grabbing 10.8 rebounds.

Some protesters chanted "Armenia without Serzh" and "Serzh is a liar".

Armenia's opposition views the move as Sargsyan's attempt to stay in power indefinitely and has vowed to keep protesting around the clock.

During the rallies, dozens were injured, including opposition leader Nikol Pashinian - who called the protests - and a number of police officers. Many Armenians accuse the government of corruption and mismanaging the economy.

As of Monday, several streets in central Yerevan remain blocked by hundreds of protesters, with Pashinyan, calling for civil disobedience including paralysing traffic, striking, and boycotting classes in universities. The statement also stressed that the right to peaceful assembly "wasn't absolute" if accompanied by gross violations of public order. Tensions in Armenia often flare up during presidential and parliamentary elections.
