Trump now less likely to sit for Mueller interview

The president's lawyers would quickly discover the news reports were not accurate and that the subpoenas were connected to the family business of Jared Kushner

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham warned in January that if Trump tries to fire Mueller, "it would be the end of his presidency".

Then on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the president "certainly believes he has the power" to fire Mueller. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, also claimed that the president believes he has the legal authority to fire Robert S. Mueller, the special counsel leading the Russian Federation investigation.

The legislation was introduced this week as Trump escalated his criticism of the special counsel, and the committee is expected to vote on the legislation on April 26, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (Republican, Iowa) said on Thursday.

Last month, Trump expressed his desire to sit down with Mueller's investigators. "I think the President has been clear what his position is". Trust with Mr. Mueller's workforce was "yet damaged", the person said.

Trump could fire him as well and repeat the process through the line of succession until someone does as he says.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Rosenstein over the appointment of Mueller as special counsel in the Russian Federation investigation.

The "Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act" would allow for an "expedited judicial review" for Mueller or any other special counsel within 10 days of being fired to determine whether the dismissal was for a "good cause", and if not, allow them to be reinstated, according to the news outlet.

White House lawyer Ty Cobb told NBC Thursday that it was "untrue" that the interview will likely not happen.

"I think it's a disgrace what's going on", he said on Monday.

On Monday, Trump's lawyers were working out some of the interview's final sticking points, when the law offices and the hotel room of the president's personal Michael Cohen were raided.

Trump called the probe a "witch hunt", as he has many times in the past, complaining that it distracts from serious issues such as consideration of a military response to the apparent use of a chemical weapon on Syrian civilians over the weekend. The FBI raid on his lawyer may infuriate trump, but axing Mueller would set off an A-bomb with no real dividends to be reaped from that move.

"I have assurances that it's not, because I've been talking to people in the White House about it".

"You know I took a polygraph test", he said, adding that he believes his story was buried as part of a larger strategy by the tabloid to quash negative articles about Trump. Over the past few months, the special counsel's office has issued indictments for several Trump campaign associates, as well as White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, for various charges, including lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about their ties with Russian officials.
