Trump lawyer raid could be bad news for U.S. president

Trump holds a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington

Investigators were seeking documents related to possible bank fraud, as well as potential campaign finance violations, according to The Washington Post.

The payments appear to be part of a pattern of Trump's self-described fixer trying to shield the businessman-turned-politician from embarrassing press by buying women's silence. As ThinkProgress previously reported, however, McDougal's legal team, citing a February New York Times report, claims her lawyer at the time, Keith Davidson, kept Cohen in the loop throughout the process.

The White House says President Donald Trump thinks he can fire special counsel Robert Mueller, but isn't taking that step now.

While he did say he was anxious, he added that what made him upset the most was how this was impacting his family.

Authorities working with Mueller chose a similar tactic last summer when they raided the home of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was subsequently indicted.

But because it was not about Russia, Mueller alerted Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein, as the acting attorney general supervising Mueller's work, has the responsibility of deciding whether to expand Mueller's mandate to include the new topic or to refer it to a USA attorney's office.

Trump's language points to another vexing issue that has erupted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on Cohen's hotel room, which is that it places a target on Mueller's back.

The platform launched in January, though those who wanted to use the Uber Bike by Jump service were required to join a waitlist. Upon completion, users can then lock the bike to any public rack in the designated zone shown on the app's map.

Cohen's attorney, Stephen Ryan, said the search was based in part on a referral from Mueller to federal prosecutors in NY, including U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman, who was appointed by Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions, in January.

Both McDougal and Clifford signed nondisclosure agreements just before Trump's election in 2016, with Daniels taking $130,000 from Cohen and McDougal accepting $150,000 from American Media Inc., owner of the National Enquirer.

The raid, in which agents seized attorney Michael Cohen's records on topics including a $130,000 payment to a porn actress who alleges she had sex with Trump, left the president more angry than advisers had seen him in weeks, according to five people familiar with the president's views but not authorized to discuss them publicly. Daniels' team has had extensive communications with federal investigators, said the third person familiar with the investigation. It is possible that in the course of their probe into Mr. Cohen, investigators could uncover improprieties in Mr. Trump's business dealings.

The lawyers repeated those arguments after Monday's raids targeting Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, but have made little or no progress persuading the president, the officials said.

Sanders said Trump has chose to stay in the United States to "oversee the American response to Syria and to monitor developments around the world".

Russian Federation has denied allegations that it interfered in the election, and Mr Trump and the White House have repeatedly said there was no collusion.

The fact that those safeguards were overridden tell us that prosecutors believe they would not have obtained the documents in question via subpoena, and that they might be evidence of a lawyer conspiring, abetting, or undertaking a criminal action on their own part. He added, "Do I need this in my life? No". I've wanted to keep it down. Freidman was charged past year by state prosecutors with pocketing $5 million in state transportation taxes. Of these four Trump associates, three-Papadopoulos, Flynn, and Gates-are already coöperating with Muller, having pleaded guilty to felonies.
