Snapchat trolls Facebook with new filter

The prank is an absolute take from Snapchat to Facebook to combat for all that Facebook has done to Snap in all these years by copying its core features to Instagram.

Snapchat seems to follow its legacy of rolling something innovative on every April fools' day. After trolling Facebook a year ago with a lighthearted Instagram-style filter, Snapchat is going one step further with a Facebook filter that's designed to recreate Russian bots liking your posts. The "your mum" like is also a hint at Facebook's older user base, and Snapchat used the same joke during its Instagram April Fools' past year.

The filter mocks Facebook's connection with Russia's use of Facebook to spread false information and interfere with US elections.

The filter, first discovered by The Verge, places a Facebook UI around your photo with Cyrillic text, and includes likes from such fictional characters as "your mom" and "a bot".

Facebook has been facing intense criticism after it emerged that data of about 50 million users had been harvested and passed on to political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica. He's also scheduled to face U.S. Congress on April 10 to testify about his company's data crisis.

Snapchat and Facebook's rivalry is not news at this point. To be fair, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel has been pretty frustrated about Facebook's many attempts to steal Snapchat's features and ideas, and this probably was his form of payback.

The app introduced a new filter that puts the Facebook user interface around your photo and makes it look like you just changed your profile picture on the platform. The latest filter is proof that Snap Inc. isn't quite yet done trolling and making fun of its chief rival.
