Tempe police investigating self-driving Uber car involved in deadly crash overnight

According to the Tempe Police Department, a pedestrian was killed in an accident involving a self-driving vehicle. It was heading north in the Phoenix suburb when it hit a woman walking outside a crosswalk.

The woman died of her injuries at a hospital and her name was not made public.

Uber has since paused all of its self-driving auto operations in Tempe, San Francisco, and Toronto, WPXI News reports. Early reports suggested that she may have been a bicyclist, but that may not be the case. Uber says that it is working with the the local authorities.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi expressed sympathy for the victim's family on Twitter, and reiterated that Uber is working with local authorities to determine what exactly occurred.
