Uber Eats Driver Murdered Customer Before Fleeing

Uber Eats delivery driver flees after customer shot killed in Atlanta police say

The Atlanta Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of 36-year-old Robert Bivines Monday for the felony murder of 30-year-old Atlanta resident Ryan Thornton. That's when words were exchanged between the delivery driver and the customer, police said. Shots were then fired. The company worked with Atlanta police and cut off the driver's access the app before he turned himself in.

Bivines' attorney claims the customer was the aggressor.

The driver, who hasn't been identified or arrested, fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Jetta. The driver later died from his injuries. "He got scared", Patterson said. Patterson said that when Bivines gave Thornton his food order, Thornton "jerked it" away and cursed at the driver.

The altercation occurred Saturday evening in the Atlanta neighborhood of Buckhead. Bivines did, and had only been a courier for about a week with Uber before the incident.

Uber launched Uber Eats, several years ago as a food delivery app in which drivers pick up meals from local restaurants and deliver them to customers.

Convicted murderer Catherine Nevin dies aged 67
She was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016 and Independent.ie reports she'd been undergoing treatment at the Mater Hospital. Last September she was given full-time temporary release from prison as she sees out her final days in a nursing home.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution cited an Uber Eats statement as saying Bivines passed a background check and had worked only days with the company.

"We are shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence and our hearts go out to (Ryan Thornton's) friends and family", Uber Eats said in a statement to AJC.

Now, Bivines remains silent by the suggestions of his legal representation, who has been handling all the questions posed as they arrived at the Atlanta Police Department this morning.

It's against Uber company policy for drivers to carry weapons of any kind, though it's unknown if the company ever conducts random checks to see if its drivers are complying.
