North Korea is already using the Olympics for propaganda

Kim Yo Jong right sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Winter Olympics on Friday

Athletes from both sides, technically still at war, marched together at the opening ceremony and have fielded a unified women's ice hockey team, the first time an inter-Korean team has competed at any Olympic Games.

Over the weekend, Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of leader Kim Jong Un visited Seoul and met with President Moon Jae-in, a historic first by any member of the ruling Kim family and the most significant diplomatic development in the Kim Jong Un era. They were a huge hit.

"There is no daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan on the need to continue to isolate North Korea economically and diplomatically until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missile program", Vice President Mike Pence told reporters after a short visit here.

In a surreal mixture of dignitaries, the Olympic Stadium's VIP box included Kim Yo Jong and North Korea's nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam, sitting above and behind U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and fellow hard-liner Shinzo Abe, Japan's prime minister.

After checking with a North Korean official at the scene, it has been confirmed that there was "no such meaning whatsoever, as assumed in the report", the ministry said in a release.

"We would like to see you at an early date in Pyongyang", Kim Yo Jong told Moon during the lunch, and also delivered her brother's personal letter that expressed his "desire to improve inter-Korean relations", the Blue House said.

"We should firmly keep in mind that any talks where denuclearisation is not a precondition only buy North Korea more time to complete its nuclear capabilities while they fool us with their peace offensive façade", said Chang Je-won, spokesman for the Liberty Korea Party.

On his flight to Alaska on Saturday, the vice president said he left Asia "encouraged that we will continue to work very closely to continue and intensify the maximum pressure campaign" against North Korea.

Seen by some as her brother's answer to American first daughter Ivanka Trump, Kim, 30, is not only a powerful member of Kim Jong Un's kitchen cabinet but also a foil to the perception of North Korea as antiquated and militaristic.

'Frank, candid' talks held with Moon, says Pyongyang
It was not immediately reported whether the North Korean leader's sister would attend the evening match against Switzerland . The U.S. and its allies are not ruling out military action against North Korea, Vice President Mike Pence told NBC News .

That's just the God's honest truth. "They're successful, but when they go to interviews, they act like f-ing robots", he said. Hey, while Foles technically may not own the Patriots in a literal sense, he sure did in the Super Bowl.

Olympics opening ceremony ratings slip for NBC
Linear TV deliveries for Friday night's opening ceremony peaked at 31.5 million viewers between 9 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. The Games in South Korea are due to finish on Feb 25. "I wanted to connect South Korea's past, present and future".

There was a carnival atmosphere as the near-capacity crowd cheered hard for their team from the moment the puck dropped and roared each time a Korean player held possession.

Moon neither accepted nor rejected the invitation, saying "the environment" should be created for such a summit to take place, apparently mindful of the US.

Kim Yo Jong and the other North Korean officials are ready to fly back to Pyongyang aboard leader Kim Jong Un's private jet.

The prospect of talks comes after months of tension between Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, with U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un trading insults and threats of destruction amid tightening sanctions from the United Nations.

"We've said for some time it's really up to the North Koreans to decide when they're ready to engage with us in a honest way, a meaningful way", Tillerson told reporters in Egypt.

There's worry, too, that the proposed summit Pyongyang may come with preconditions - a North Korean specialty.

With a smile, a handshake and a warm message in South Korea's presidential guest book, Kim Yo Jong has struck a chord with the public just one day into the PyeongChang Games.

But throughout the Olympic venues there was a sense of euphoria. The days of Kim Jong-un's threats to attack the United States seemed like ancient history.

In Pyeongchang, though, the two Koreas avoided talk of sanctions and basked instead in Olympic goodwill, which was nowhere more evident than on Saturday night when a joint Korean women's ice hockey team took to the ice.
