Facebook's new Lists feature focuses on more personal posts

Facebook's status update feature has evolved over the years, where previously it used to be where people would post the most inane of things.

As per a TechCrunch report, the Facebook Lists feature is the first major update in the status box after the coloured backgrounds option that was introduced a year ago. To come out of this image, Facebook is tweaking how its News Feed algorithm works. The feature has started rolling out today and should reach all the users soon.

Note: If you don't see these options, tap the "Add to your post" option to expand the menu.

Just like traditional status messages, users can also personalize the look of their lists with different colors and emoji. It was told that friends will be able to copy each other's lists and share their own opinions for the matter. The idea here is to spark more engaging conversations between people. Like other recent additions and changes to the News Feed, Lists was created to encourage "meaningful connections between people rather than passive consumption of content", Facebook said.

If this new feature is received as well as a similar feature did on the long forgotten Myspace and early inceptions of Facebook then Mark Zuckerberg may achieve his goal of not only getting them to allocate more time to Facebook but also to stimulate better interactions among friends. The company changed things further late last month when it announced that it would prioritize local news sources over national and worldwide outlets. Tap the Lists option to create a customized list for your news feed.

The move comes as Facebook is making significant changes to the news feed. Unlike many online publications, we don't have a paywall or run banner advertising, because we want to keep our journalism open, without influence or the need to chase traffic.
