Colorado Couple's Life Savings Go Down With Sunken Sailboat

LOCAL Couple sold everything to live on a boat it sank on Day 2
Within two days their dream became a nautical nightmare

On their way to Key West, Tanner Broadwell and Nikki Walsh's voyage abruptly ended in John's Pass off Madeira Beach, Fla., when their 28-foot sailboat struck something underwater Wednesday night.

A Colorado couple's plans didn't turn out exactly like they'd hoped after they sold everything they owned to purchase a sailboat and travel together when the boat crashed on their trip, USA Today reports.

Tanner Broadwell, 26, and his girlfriend Nikki Walsh, 24, share the same goals: live a simple life and travel.

"There were sentimental objects that can't be replaced", Broadwell said.

Once Sea Tow finally arrived, their ship was already immersed in close to 10 feet of water, and ready capsize.

"We have a lot of family helping us, but it's hard when you've lost everything", Walsh told The Post from Jacksonville, where the couple is staying with loved ones.

"How can we live our lives when we're working most of the day and you have to pay so much just to live?"

It was dark and the fog had rolled in to the uncharted waters for Broadwell and Walsh, and now their cabin was flooding more and more.

"The boat sank, but our dreams didn't sink with the boat", said Walsh. After about 30 miles, they ran into trouble in a channel of water called John's Pass, near Madeira Beach. Plus, they think their navigational maps didn't account for channel changes after Hurricane Irma.

She is the first member of the North's longtime ruling family to visit the South since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War. They were stopped and most were killed near the palace, which was newly rebuilt in 1991.

Walsh admitted she and her boyfriend, who used to drive for Uber, were "new to sailing".

"We started freaking out because waves were coming, and it was tossing our boat back and forth", Walsh recalled.

On the first day of their adventure, Walsh and Broadwell sailed south.

She was at the bow and boyfriend Broadwell "had the motor" and was clutching Remy, their precious pug.

She said her hands were shaking and she stuttered as she spoke to a representative from what is basically the AAA of the boating universe.

They only had time to grab their social security cards, cash, and a few clothes.

'I'm not going to give up now, ' Broadwell said.

"He doesn't deserve to go without his favorite toys".

"We've also had several experienced captains hit that from time to time when there's been big storms and they try to get into the inlet and they don't hit the buoy just right", said Kenny Keen, a local charter boat captain. Why spend it doing what you don't love.
