The Chinese New Year (also known as the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival), which starts on February 16, is designated as the Year of the Dog.

Festivities are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The Chinese New Year generally lasts two weeks and is celebrated around the world with bell ringing, firecrackers and lion dances.
