#Zuma: ANC NEC's Monday afternoon meeting is the cut-off point

Zuma woes: Unapologetic wife hits back

President Jacob Zuma seems to feel that the extent of corruption in Africa is not as bad as what is perceived or what reports suggest, while Ramaphosa calls it a "mammoth task" to deal with South Africa.

He lost his position as leader of ANC to trade Unionist Cyril Ramaphosa who was chosen to lead the 23-year-old ANC party on December 2018.

Mr Zuma, 75, faces a number of corruption charges after nine years in power.

South African Community Party and African National Congress (ANC) have threatened to march to the Union Buildings today and mount a vigil until President Jacob Zuma has resigned.

He also acknowledged the disunity within the ANC but said Mr Mandela's centenary year "offers us a new beginning".

"We know you want this matter to be finalised", he said to rapturous cheering, vowing to tackle the corruption that has tarnished Zuma's government.

A long and drawn out debate is expected at the NEC meeting to be held in Irene at 14:00 on Monday, with Zuma still enjoying support from some Cabinet ministers who also sit in the NEC.

The national executive committee of the ANC is set to discuss Zuma's fate at a meeting Monday afternoon that many South Africans hope will end a period of political limbo in one of Africa's biggest economies.

Zuma violated the constitution by using state money to pay for multi-million-dollar upgrades to his private home.

Maker of Marmite Threatens to Stop Ads on Google and Facebook
"We can not have an environment where our consumers don't trust what they see online", said Unilever's chief marketing officer Keith Weed.

Efforts by top leaders to convince Zuma to graciously step down have so far been unfruitful, hence the meeting by the executive committee which has the power to recall it's representative in the office of the president.

The radical opposition Economic Freedom Fighters party has tabled another motion of no confidence which is due to be debated in parliament on Feb 22.

If he refused to resign as head of state, the party could then trigger a parliamentary confidence vote to get rid of him.

Cars carrying ANC leaders drew into the venue, but no official word was expected to confirm the closed-door meeting had started.

Meanwhile‚ the Congress of the People says the country has suffered immeasurable harm under Zuma's presidency and that his removal could not come sooner.

Under Zuma, the ANC won less than 54 percent of the vote in local elections in 2016 in its worst electoral performance since coming to power with Mandela at the helm in 1994.

It was in that same vast square in front of City Hall on February 11, 1990, that Nelson Mandela spoke to euphoric crowds hours after his release from prison.

He never mentioned Zuma by name, and it took him 40 minutes to raise the matter in his speech of about 50 minutes.
