Cases Lodged During Jatt Reservation Stir Will Be Withdrawn: Haryana CM Khattar

Jats threaten to block Amit Shah's rally Haryana withdraws 70 cases

All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) chief Yashpal Malik had cited non-fulfilment of a number of the group's demands as the reason behind the plan to block the BJP chief's rally with almost 50,000 tractor trolleys. "Till date, we have withdrawn 208 such cases where the charges were not that grave".

The Haryana government had recently given its nod to the withdrawal of 70 FIRs registered in connection with the Jat quota stir violence. And termed these 70 FIRs as "minor offences" of which the accused were charged with the felling of trees, blocking highways and rail traffic.

In view of call of fresh protest announced by Jats, Haryana Police Department has cancelled leave of all personnel except in emergency cases till further orders.

During the past almost two years, the government has approved withdrawal of 223 cases, in which a total of 2,027 people were accused, Home Secretary Prasad had said earlier. Cases pertaining to heinous crimes like murder were not to be withdrawn. "We have already given employment to 30 people from the families of victims as per their qualifications".

The Haryana government agreed to revoke all criminal cases against members of the Jat community, besides those that the Central Bureau of Investigation is looking into after the February 2016 Jat agitation. Our agitation stands as per schedule. Government has also assured that they will be passing a Bill in Parliament regarding granting reservation to Jat community in government jobs and educational institutes. "All the cases, heinous or non-heinous in nature, should be withdrawn by the government". Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala said the party is in talks with Jat leaders and is hoping that the rally would take place as planned. Over 450 NGOs will also take part in the security arrangement. "The BJP president needs to know how the government is betraying the Jat community", said the HT report quoting Malik. No action has been taken against policemen who killed Jats. Prior to this in December, a similar direction was issued for the withdrawal of 15 cases in which 47 persons were accused. State leadership of the BJP is in panic. AIJASS has threatened to block Shah's rally. "That is why they have announced conciliatory measures so that Amit Shah can address the rally peacefully".

"The BJP governments in Centre and Haryana have failed to deliver on all fronts, especially giving jobs to the unemployed".

For, if the Jats' threat to disrupt BJP president Amit Shah's proposed one-lakh bike rally wasn't enough, the NGT has also put a spanner in the works by serving a notice on a petition raising the issue of pollution.
