Canadian snowboarders Max Parrot and Mark McMorris won Canada's first medals of the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Gerard, a 17-year-old from Silverthorne, Colorado, drilled his third and final run on the chilly but sun-splashed course at Phoenix Snow Park.

Less than a year later, McMorris found himself on the podium in PyeongChang after winning a bronze medal in the men's snowboard slopestyle. Parrot was able to nail his altered run and snag a score of 86.00 and a silver medal, 0.8 points ahead of McMorris, who won bronze.

Most of the slopestyle competitors will also compete in the big air event in Pyeongchang, a new addition to the Olympic program for 2018.

"After I landed the second jump I was like, 'come on, don't blow it on the last jump, let's just make it through.' It feels awesome, I'm really happy that we can get a medal under our belts". Sebastien Toutant qualified easily with a comfortable first run on Saturday morning and in the afternoon session, Tyler Nicholson recovered from a fall on his first trick in his first run with a clean second run that booked his spot in the final.

Manchester City vs. Leicester: Premier League highlights and recap
One has to dig deep to find a chink in City's armour, that's the level that Pep Guardiola's men are operating at the moment. The half ended with City in the ascendancy with Aguero , Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan all having shots on goal .

McMorris tumbled on his final run, leaving the door open for Parrot to land on the podium. This was the best run I could put down at the right moment and now it's the judges' decision. And within months the 24-year-old was back on his snowboard. Canada has won nine medals in the history of the Olympic Winter Games in men's snowboarding, but it is the first time that two Canadians landed on the same podium in an Olympic snowboarding event. "I probably shouldn't even be here", said the seven-time X-Games champion.

Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Max and Mark's outstanding performances.

"I'm going to get few more rotations hopefully at practice and step up the rail line a bit", said McMorris when asked how he will look to up his game. His score of 87.16 was just enough to slip by Parrot.

The next chapter of the McMorris-Parrot rivalry will unfold February 20 and 23, when big air snowboarding makes its Olympic debut.
