Reports say 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster arrested for domestic violence

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Foster was taken into custody in Santa Clara County on charges related to domestic violence.

Foster, a 23-year-old first-round pick in last year's National Football League draft, was arrested in Los Gatos in Santa Clara County, California, and is now being held without bail, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The first, stemming on January 12 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, stemmed from a charge of second-degree marijuana possession. That includes being sent home early from the 2017 scouting combine after an altercation with a hospital worker and a diluted drug sample at the combine.

He was considered the best inside linebacker in the 2017 draft and his rookie season with San Francisco bolstered that evaluation.

But these are just Foster's most recent troubles.

General manager John Lynch had previously said the 49ers were attracted to Foster for his enthusiasm and passion for the sport. San Francisco selected him 31st overall.

This is Foster's second arrest within a month.

There's no doubting Foster's talent on the field. "We take matters of this nature seriously and are gathering all pertinent information", the statement reads.

Prosecutors later dropped the charges due insufficient evidence, but the team said it would have no tolerance for players even if they charged. "I think you let those things happen organically and we did what we felt was the right situation in that situation".
