Turkish military helicopter shot down by Kurdish fighters in Syria's Afrin

PYD PKK black propaganda misuses Erdogan's

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on worldwide law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, the military said.

A spokesman for the Kurdish militia, Mustafa Bali, confirmed his fighters shot down the chopper in Raju, north-west Afrin.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff added 11 other Turkish soldiers were also injured in the operation.

"We don't have exact evidence or document to determine that it went down with any outside interference", Yildirim told reporters on Saturday, as cited by AP. It is also unclear where the incident took place.

Yildirim earlier said Turkey had not launched its operation in Afrin to enter into a war or because it had "an eye" on another country's territory.

The Turkish helicopter was targeted over the town of Rajo northwest of Afrin in the northwestern countryside of Aleppo province.

Turkey resumed on Friday airstrikes in northern Syria's Kurdish enclave of Afrin after a brief lull, killing and wounding several people, the military and Kurdish officials said.

Speaking in Istanbul on Saturday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan didn't mention by name the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG, but said that those responsible will pay for it.

Erdogan has recently stated that once the Afrin operation is over, Turkey's next target could be Idlib."We want our Syrian brothers and sisters to return to their land, and now we want to do the same in Idlib what we have done in Afrin", he said on Thursday.
