More than 220 civilians killed as Syria continues air strikes

Syrian regime may attack Kurdish-led forces again in Deir al-Zor SDF

At least 100 pro-regime fighters were killed, a U.S. military official said.

Turkey launched an offensive into the enclave on January 20 against Syrian Kurdish fighters that Ankara considers to be a security threat due to their links to outlawed rebels in Turkey.

While UN officials say hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, regime officials say the death toll is closer to 10,000.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday said a military helicopter was downed in southern Hatay province during the ongoing Operation Olive Branch.

Western powers have expressed alarm over the government's campaign against rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, where 400,000 people have been besieged since 2013.

Meanwhile, at least 1,141 People's Protection Units (YPG) militants have been "neutralized" since the beginning of Turkey's "Operation Olive Branch" in Syria's Afrin, the Turkish General Staff said also on February 10.

However, pro-Kurdish news sources said it was shot down in the village of Qude in Afrin's Rajo district.

They discussed the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of the three countries, but the exact date has yet to be decided, Russia's RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

In a statement, the Turkish military said that air strikes destroyed shelters, hideouts and ammunition depots belonging to the YPG and the Islamic State group, which Turkey says it is also combating in the operation.

"The casualties of al-Qaeda gangs are about 350 and Turkish army lost about 200 soldiers", he said, adding that the YPG had only suffered 100 casualties. In Idlib, the largest area controlled by the opposition, at least two million people reside.

The draft resolution proposed by Sweden and Kuwait also calls for an immediate end to all sieges including in Eastern Ghouta.

More than 4,000 families live in basements and bunkers for fear of air strikes, according to Save the Children.

The Save the Children charity said children in the area were being "starved, bombed and trapped". "Schools are supposed to be safe places for children, protected under worldwide law, yet they are being attacked every single day".
