Man texts 'LOL' in group text as woman dies from overdose

Varela told friends at work he had broken Noceda's legs after her death to stuff her body into a plastic bin which he then planned to bury

A Lynwood man is accused of raping a young woman as she was dying from an overdose, then trying to hide the evidence.

According to friend Jayson Pepito, Varela took several photos of Noceda naked and unconscious, and sent them in a group chat.

Noceda, who had recently split from her boyfriend, followed Varela to his bedroom, where she snorted a long line of the prescription painkiller Percocet and passed out after Varela offered her a "dab" of liquid THC, as the suspect and other witnesses told police. The message with the photos said, "LOL I think she od'd, still breathing".

While there, the suspect allegedly bragged to co-workers that a girl had died while having sex with him, and claimed he didn't call for help because he was "too exhausted".

Police said one of Varela's co-workers contacted them after Varela reportedly said he didn't know if Noceda was still alive when he was having sex with her. Court records say he told a friend that "she died having sex with me", and that he was having sex with her "to pass the time".

When Varela got home that night, according to his roommate's statement, he forced Noceda's body into the plastic container. But by Sunday morning, she was dead.

Instead of calling police, as his roommate suggested, Varela went to work a double shift at a local Dairy Queen.

Hong Kong: 18 killed, 62 injured after bus overturns
Most of the passengers were horse racing fans, as the bus was travelling on a special route for horse racing days. In 2008, a speeding bus careered out of control at a Sai Kung roundabout, leaving 18 people dead and 44 injured.

Alyssa's mum Gina Pierson said after the trial: "She was just an innocent 18-year-old girl, having fun, and she was taken advantage of". His co-workers encouraged him to take the woman to the hospital, but he told them he was "too exhausted".

Allegedly, Varela told coworkers he needed to bury Noceda, and mentioned how he broke her legs in order to stuff her body into a black crate.

Varela was arrested on investigation of rape, manslaughter and homicide by controlled substance on Tuesday. While at work, Varela told another employee about the incident he'd stuffed the body into a plastic crate, according to the coworker's story.

Charges against Varela must be filed in Snohomish County Superior Court by February 23 for the case to move forward in the system.

After reading Noceda's mother post on Facebook, Varela said he used Alyssa's thumb to unlock her iPhone and update her Snapchat to make it appear as if she had run away from home, which she had done before.

Brian Varela, 19, appeared before a judge Wednesday regarding the death of Alyssa Noceda. A prosecutor described his behavior as showing "a callous and shocking disregard for human life".
