Relative Shocked By Family Member's "House Of Horrors"

Turpin family

David Turpin, 57, and his wife, 49, were hit with 12 counts of torture, 12 of false imprisonment, six of child abuse and six of abuse of a dependent adult at a court hearing in the city of Riverside. David Turpin was also charged with one count of lewd conduct with a child under 14 years of age.

The couple are due to appear in court today.

David and Anne Turpin are jailed on $13 million bail each - $1 million for each child. The couple could serve 94 years in prison each if found guilty of the charges.

Mr Hestrin said there had been no torture charge filed in relation to the two-year-old because the toddler appeared to be "getting enough food". A 12-year-old was the weight of an average 7-year-old.

"The 29-year-old weighs 82 pounds". "They shut us out years and years and years ago". Uffer says they are small and clearly malnourished but are stable and very friendly.

"Further investigation revealed several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark and foul-smelling surroundings, but the parents were unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner". It included chaining the siblings to beds for weeks at a time, beatings and chokings. Circumstantial evidence suggested that such treatment could go on for days, with the children not even been unchained to go to the toilet. The victims could only shower once a year. Likewise, the Police Department in Murrieta, where the family lived from 2010 to 2014 after moving to California from Texas, had no interactions with them, said a spokesman for the agency.

The parents would occasionally stop by to feed them.

They were arrested on Sunday after their 17-year-old daughter escaped from their home in Perris, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, and called police.

The Californian parents who allegedly kept their 13 children in shackles in their home have pleaded not guilty at their first court appearance.

The 13 siblings taken from a California home after they were held captive by their parents were allowed to eat only one rationed meal a day and shower once a year, a prosecutor said Thursday.

The house was dirty and rancid. The children were provided food since they claimed to be starving.

All 13 children are being treated for malnutrition and are undergoing medical tests.

The Corona Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations for the children online here. The couple is now charged with torture.

Authorities found the pair's toddler to adult-aged children chained in the home alongside the family's two Maltese dogs - said to be in "good condition" despite the child neglect and abuse.
