US could 'conceivably' rejoin Paris climate agreement

U.S. president Donald Trump said that his country could "conceivably" remain party to the Paris climate agreement, after meeting Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg on Wednesday (10 January).

Last June, Trump angered global businesses and politicians by announcing the USA would be leaving the worldwide climate accord, which was signed by the Obama administration and counts every nation on earth as a signatory until the U.S. formally quits the deal in 2020. While the NDC legally remains in place until 2019, the Trump administration has already stopped implementation, and on June 1, 2017, announced that the USA would pull out of the Paris agreement unless it could identify suitable terms for re-engagement.

With "they", he was referring to the previous administration under Barack Obama, which in 2015 together with most of the world's nations signed the first-ever truly global climate treaty in the French capital. It put great penalties on us.

Last summer, Trump said the U.S. would pull out of the agreement, although legally speaking the United States can not leave the treaty until 2020. He also stated that the current agreement "took away a lot of [the country's] asset values". "Frankly, it's an agreement that I have no problem with, but I had a problem with the agreement that they signed, because as usual they made a bad deal", Trump said at a joint press conference in the White House after meeting Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg on Wednesday. "I'm not going to let that happen", he added.

The President - who has been a vocal champion of the United States fossil fuel industries as well as frequently voicing climate change scepticism - said the Paris Agreement signalled a "tremendous penalty" for using gas, coal and oil energy, suggesting the deal was harsher on USA interests than Russian and China.

However, he insisted that Paris Agreement, which the worldwide community signed in 2015 with the aim of combating climate change by limiting global temperature rise to well below two degrees Celsius, was "a bad deal" and "very unfair" to the US.

Bevell was sacked , along with offensive line coach Tom Cable, after the Seahawks went 9-7 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

The Agreement required countries create their own climate action plans and restrictions, and the Agreement does not actually contain any formal penalties for nations that fail to meet their own self-imposed targets.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg said that the economic relationship between the Norway and the U.S.is being strengthened, the report noted.

According to some estimates, the United States would have had to close businesses in order to qualify by 2025. "China, by 2030-they don't kick in until 2030", he said as an example. "I feel very strongly about the environment".

"I will say that the Paris Agreement, as drawn and as we signed, was very unfair to the United States".

He had also said that the United States could stay in if the treaty was renegotiated, something which the European Union and other nations quickly ruled out would ever happen.

"We are not going to let that happen".
