FIFA Says Spain Could Miss 2018 World Cup in Russia

According to FIFA, the NSC interference in RFEF affairs is against the worldwide federation's rules.

"I'm absolutely convinced that Spain will go to the World (Cup) in Russian Federation and what's more, we'll win", he said. "All associations must be assured that there is no outside interference from third parties in its internal affairs".

Fifa has warned the Spanish football association (RFEF) that the government must not interfere in its elections.

The proposal of the Higher Council for Sports to hold new elections for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation, now chaired by Juan Luis Larrea, was forwarded by the Administrative Court of Sport to the Council of State, the body that should decide as a last resort if there are new elections or not.

However, the organisation made it clear that it wants Spain to participate in the world cup next year.

Critics of Villar argue that elections are needed to make a clean start for the institution that has been tarnished by the scandal.
