Yes, I believe her, Ramaphosa on Khwezi

Zuma's terse response to Ramaphosa's Khwezi comments

The office of the Presidency on Friday responded to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa's comments that while he accepts President Jacob Zuma was acquitted of raping Khwezi, he would still believe her allegation.

Ramaphosa, pressed for a response by 702's Karima Brown in a radio interview on Thursday on whether he believed Khwezi - whose real name was Fezekile Kuzwayo - eventually replied: "Yes, I would believe her".

The ruling African National Congress party will choose a new leader this month, and that person likely will become South Africa's next president in 2019. I know how hard and painful it is for a woman to garner up the courage and say yes, I was raped.

Ramaphosa responded that he knew how hard it was for a woman to make such a claim hence he was inclined to believe Khwezi.

The Pretoria High Court ruled that President Zuma was "clearly conflicted" by outstanding allegations against him and should therefore not have been allowed to appoint the national director of public prosecutions Shaun Abrahams.
