Israeli Army Strikes Targets In Gaza In Response To Rocket Fire

Haniyya Slams American Decision, Calls For Massive Intifada In Palestine

Two rockets were launched at Israel from Gaza on Thursday night, but fell short of their mark and landed inside the coastal enclave, the army said.

The Israel Defense Forces sent soldiers to inspect the area for signs of impact, but, finding none, determined that the two rockets had not reached Israeli territory, a spokesperson said.

The Spokesperson's Unit also confirmed a third rocket that was sacked toward Israel and reached Israeli territory.

In response to rocket fire earlier on Thursday evening, the IDF fired on Hamas targets in central Gaza.

"It is an unmasked support to occupation, oppression and injustice", Haniyya added, "Jerusalem is ours, there is no West or East; it is the united Arab and Islamic capital of the state of Palestine, a state from the river to the sea". The move sparked worldwide opposition and prompted Palestinian leaders to call for three days of protest.

At least 31 people were injured in the demonstrations, according to Israeli medics, including one person who was in critical condition.

Haniyya called on the Palestinian government "to support the armed resistance factions, to continue the struggle against the Israeli occupation", in response to the American decision, to move the US embassy to occupied Jerusalem, and the USA claim that the city is the capital of Israel. Although the decision's long-term effects on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and attempts at peace remain unclear, the announcement has caused an immediate wave of unrest.

Both Israelis and Palestinians lay claim to Jerusalem, although Israel has retained control over the city since 1967.

Reportedly, the leader of the Palestinian Islamist group, Hamas, has called for a new "intifada", or uprising, as protests broke out in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem.
