International Space Station Crew Makes Pizza In Orbit

International Space Station

When you really, really miss pizza... you CASUALLY mention it to the International @Space_Station?

The idea was reportedly cooked up by NASA's space station manager, Kirk Shireman, who learned that Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli was craving pizza and sent the ingredients up on a capsule in mid-November. The astronauts had foundations for pizza, tomato sauce, cheese, salami, olives, olive oil, anchovy paste, and pesto.

You might not immediately find yourself comparing the International Space Station with your lounge room, but it turns out that the triumph of cutting-edge engineering and international goodwill has a lot in common with the place you eat chips and fall asleep - at a microbiological level, at least. Nespoli, along with NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik and Roscosmos commander Sergey Ryazansky, began their outer space mission in July and have continued to share photos and videos of their findings. London, New York and California alongside fantastic natural landscapes across our Earth are seen from 250 miles above in Space.

In the footage published on Twitter, the astronauts can be seen sticking the ingredients on before spinning them as they float around the cabin. A modern-day trailblazer, Kelly's time on the International Space Station is already proving invaluable to scientists studying the effects of long-term space travel on the human body.

According to the crew, they "had a blast channeling our inner chef by building tasty pizzas for movie night".
