American Airlines doesn't have enough pilots scheduled for holiday travel

American Airlines says pilot shortage nearly solved

A failure in American Airlines' pilot schedule bidding system has resulted in thousands of flights now not having pilots assigned to fly them during the upcoming holiday travel period, says the Allied Pilots Association (APA), a union representing pilots for the airline. In September, Irish low-priced carrier Ryanair said it would cancel more 20,000 flights between November and March after admitting it "messed up" the transition to a new system for scheduling employee vacations.

But the union filed a grievance, saying that the premium pay was not covered by its contract and that the airline couldn't guarantee payment.

The Allied Pilots Association (APA) said in a statement, "On Friday, management disclosed a failure within the pilot schedule bidding system". You want the days off?

About 15,000 American Airlines flights could be canceled because of a computer glitch in the company's pilot scheduling system. The scheduling issues predominant affect the second half of December around the holidays when a computer system inadvertently gave pilots the opportunity to withdraw from flying.

A mimicry artist , Abi and his contemporaries like actor Dileep had become popular in Malayalam cinema in the 90s. The actor had been ailing for a while now and was undergoing treatment for low platelet count, the report added.

American Airline officials are not commenting on the exact number of flights that could be affected, though the Dallas Morning News puts the estimate at up to 15,000 pilot-less flights between December 17 thru year end.

Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for the APA, said: Basically there's a crisis at American for manning the cockpits.

The airline was seeking late-December pilot staffing at a number of its hubs, according to a scheduling memo sent by American to its pilots in the wake of the glitch. "This is very unusual".

American said it is offering to pay a 150 percent wage to any pilot who will come back to work during those dates. The contract means they can not offer any more overtime pay. "We will work with the APA to take care of our pilots and ensure we get our customers to where they need to go over the holidays".
