Watford reject Everton's request to talk to Marco Silva about managerial vacancy

Everton approach for Marco Silva reportedly rejected by Watford

Watford have rejected an approach from Everton for their manager Marco Silva, sources close to the Vicarage Road club have told ESPN FC.

The Toffees sacked manager Ronald Koeman last month after a torrid start to the season, in which the Dutchman lost five of his first nine games to open the campaign.

The Times claim that Everton offered a compensation package of £8.5million for Silva, but Watford stood firm as they attempt to keep the 40-year-old at Vicarage Road.

Diggs said he wanted to pay homage to service members, but the Vikings were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct. Next week, a very tough Los Angeles Rams team comes to town and will battle the Purple in a battle of divisional leaders.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Silva would be interested in speaking to Everton about the vacancy at Goodison Park, but it remains to be seen if Watford would change their stance on the Toffees' interest. Watford do not want to lose Silva mid-season - he has only been in charge for 12 games - and believe that having said no to Everton's approach today that the matter is now closed.

It is understood Silva would like the opportunity to talk to the Merseyside club and chairman Bill Kenwright and owner Farhad Moshiri, but the lack of a release clause in Silva's contract means he is bound to the club for the two years he signed on for during the summer. He is already on the radar of Arsenal and Manchester United as a potential future manager and sees his future managing one of England's top clubs, even ahead of a return to Portugal to coach Benfica. Silva nearly kept Hull in the Premier League before leaving for Watford, who are ninth in the table.

Koeman has been temporarily replaced by caretaker boss David Unsworth, and whilst he got his first win with a 3-2 comeback victory over Watford before the worldwide break, Everton have been looking elsewhere too.
